Free Radicals in a Single Crystal of Glycyl-glycine at Room Temperature

Pages 557-575 | Received 20 Jul 1971, Accepted 20 Sep 1971, Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Summary

The hyperfine splitting of the doublet lines was used to identify the different stable modifications of the glycyl-glycine radicals induced by irradiation of single crystals. Two types of single crystals have been examined. With the aid of theoretical calculations, the radical fragments H3CCONHĊHCOO and H3CCONHĊHCOOH are found as the remains of the radiation lesions at room temperature when the crystals do not contain water of crystallization. If the crystals contain water of crystallization, in addition to these, the radical types +H3NCH2CONHĊHCOOH and possibly +H3NCHCONHCH2ĊOO are also found.
