Aaron L. Friedberg, Cambridge, Polity Press, 2022, 246 pp., $29.95 (hardback), ISBN-13:978-1509545124.

Notes

1. Gideon Rose, ‘Neoclassical Realism and Theories of Foreign Policy’, World Politics, 51(1), 1998, pp. 144–172.

2. In 2023, the French President, on his way back from a state visit to China, argued that France should not be an American ‘vassal’ in the US-China rivalry.

3. This is exemplified by the fact that the US does not attempt to change Singapore’s political system which is less of a liberal democracy and marked by media censorship and silencing of dissentors. On the other hand, it was Japan’s booming economy during the 1980s which caused an alarm in the US despite Japan being a democracy.
