Introduction to the Special Issue: International Perspectives on Women's Substance Use

Pages 973-977 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Notes

1“Vulnerability” is a concept, often noted in the literature, without adequately describing and understanding its dimensions (linear, non-linear), its “demands”, the critical necessary conditions (endogenously as well as exogenously) which are necessary for it to operate (begin, continue, become anchored and integrate, change as de facto realities change, cease, etc.) or not to and whether its underpinnings are theory driven, empirically based, individual, and/or systemic stakeholder-bound, based on “principles of faith” or what. This is necessary to clarify if the term is not to remain as yet another shibboleth in a field of many stereotypes. Chief Editor's note.

2The journal's style utilizes the category substance abuse as a diagnostic category. Substances are used or misused; living organisms are and can be abused. Chief Editor's note.
