Inhibitory Effects of Resveratrol Oligomers in Sophora mooracroftiana on Lipid Peroxidation by Superoxide Anion

Abstract

The in vitro inhibitory effects were investigated for two resveratrol oligomers, sophorastilbene A and (+)-α-viniferin, isolated from Sophora mooracroftiana, on lipid peroxidation by superoxide anion. They each inhibited production of lipid peroxidation by superoxide anion and generation of superoxide anion by the xanthine–xanthine oxidase system. The inhibitory effects of sophorastilbene A were stronger than those of (+)-α-viniferin on production of lipid peroxidation by superoxide anion and generation of superoxide anion by the xanthine–xanthine oxidase system. It was demonstrated that the differences of inhibitory effects depend on a double bond at 7c–8c of resveratrol oligomer. Their effects were similar to superoxide dismutase as a superoxide anion scavenger. These results demonstrate that these resveratrol oligomers have the inhibitory effects on oxidative stress.
