A geometrical approach to matching raster & vector databases of buildings

ORCID Icon

ABSTRACT

This study outlines a new approach to matching raster and vector datasets using 3D geometries . The method includes several procedures based on the similarity of selected pixels of an image to 3D polygons. The method provides four results of matching for each pixel with respect to the polygons The results of the application to a set of buildings included in a DSM and polygons digitised from a city model have demonstrated the viability of the method for matching features. The results have shown that the method is efficient for conflating tasks such as integrating data, updating and change detection.
