Abstract

Objectives

Umbilical artery thrombosis (UAT) is considered a marker for poor fetal prognosis. Because of limited studies, the clinical management for this disease remains a challenge. Most of the previously reported cases chose emergency cesarean section at the confirmation of this disease.

Cases presentation

Here, we studied two cases of UAT choosing expectant management with strict fetal observation. Both cases had good maternal and fetal outcomes without any complications.

Conclusions

For UAT patients with good maternal and fetal status, especially for the preterm group with an urgent need to extend the pregnancy period, expectant management with the US and close fetal monitoring may be an alternative to emergent delivery.
