ABSTRACT
In Romans 8:31–39, the Apostle Paul addresses the community of faith at Rome by asking the question, “What shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Here that question is applied to the many ways that domestic violence separates the victim and her children from the faith community and from society. It is the call to the church to break the code of silence that enables perpetrators of violence to operate unchallenged by the faith community. This sermon was preached at a community-wide service for victims and survivors of domestic violence, their families, and friends on October 22, 2006, at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church, Black Mountain, NC.
