Abstract
Three hundred and eighty-five cord venous blood samples were collected at the time of delivery to estimate the liver enzyme, gamma glutamyl transferase, in the fetal blood. Participating women included those with pre-eclampsia (100), intrauterine growth retardation (75), multiple pregnancy (25), essential hypertension (50), diabetes mellitus (25) and a control group (110), i.e. women without any medical or obstetrical complications. Statistical analysis was by unpaired t-test.
