Abstract
The aims of this study were (1) to review maternal and neonatal outcome in gestational diabetes and (2) to compare outcome in those requiring insulin vs. diet alone. This was a retrospective chart review of 79 women with a diagnosis of gestational diabetes in the National Maternity Hospital, Dublin in 2000. A family history of diabetes was found in 51% of cases, with 52.2% of women giving a past history of gestational diabetes and a further 32.7% having previously delivered a baby >4 kg.
