The Growth of the Hospice Movement

Abstract

This paper traces the history of the hospice movement, its present status and its projection for growth. It looks at hospices in the United States and in Great Britain, particularly examining the kinds of pain associated with terminal illness, and the allevation thereof. It compares the philosophy of hospice with the future of occupational therapy as an integral part of this humane program which provides palliative and supportive care for terminally ill patients and their families.
