Selection of an Initial Vocabulary

Abstract

Selection of an initial vocabulary is a critical element in the implementation of any augmentative communication technique. This article reviews the literature on the subject then proposes a procedure to be used in selecting vocabulary for aided techniques. Content guidelines, selection strategies and vocabulary expansion methods are delineated.
