Powered Mobility for Young Children with Physical Disabilities

Pages 71-79 | Published online: 29 Jul 2009

Abstract

The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to review recent research on powered mobility for young children with physical disabilities. The results of these studies indicate that children less than four years of age can learn to drive a powered mobility device. Questions remain, however, concerning the impact of powered mobility on other areas of development, when to initiate powered mobility, and what technology can provide for those children who can not use a traditional joystick.
