Abstract
Addressing the Activity of Daily Living (ADL) needs of patients to include sexuality should be a treatment priority for geriatric therapists. Instruction on older adult sexuality in the Occupational Therapy (OT) curriculum could help future therapists to approach sexuality in clinical treatment in a knowledgeable and sensitive manner. The influence of education on senior O.T. students' knowledge of and attitudes towards geriatric sexuality was assessed at Creighton University in 1992 and 1993. The students were given a pretest using the Aging Sexual Knowledge and Attitudes Scale (ASKAS) followed by an educational module on sexuality and a posttest, the ASKAS. Analyses of the pre- and posttests indicated statistically significant improvement in knowledge (p < .0001) and attitudes (p < .001).
