HALOGENATION OF AROMATIC METHYL KETONES USING OXONE® AND SODIUM HALIDE

Abstract

Aromatic methyl ketones undergo α-halogenation on treatment with sodium halide in the presence of oxone® in aqueous methanol. However, electron-rich hetero aromatic methyl ketones afford ring bromination products preferentially.
