Abstract

K₂O–Al₂O₃ catalyzes the Knoevenagel condensation of ethyl cyanoacetate with aromatic aldehydes, giving ethyl α‐cyanocinnamates in 94–98% yield under solvent‐free condition by grinding at room temperature.
