Treatment of Trichomoniasis with a Single Oral Dose of Tinidazole (‘Fasigyn’)

Summary

During one year, 53 non-pregnant women in whom the diagnosis of trichomonal vaginitis was confirmed by direct examination of the vaginal secretion, and on clinical grounds, were treated with a single dose of 2000 mg. tinidazole. The cure rate (94%) is not less than with a 7-day administration of 150 mg. tinidazole twice daily. Side-effects were also not more frequent or more serious than with the 7-day therapy.

Because a single-dose oral therapy has clear advantages, such as the adherence to the therapeutic regime and the co-treatment of the male sexual partner, the authors prefer this method to those available at the present time.
