Summary
A double-blind trial was carried out in 26 patients with an acute episode of tendinitis to compare the effectiveness and tolerability of treatment with fentiazac with that of phenylbutazone. Patients took 100 mg 4-times daily of either drug over a period of 7 days. The results were evaluated by objective and subjective assessments of pain, loss of function and mobility, and by the investigator's and patients' opinions of overall response to treatment. Some improvement in symptoms was noted, particularly in tenderness in the fentiazac group, but the difference between the two groups was not significant. Five patients in the phenylbutazone group failed to attend for follow-up, and 1 patient in each group stopped treatment during the week because of side-effects.
