Patient Preferences in End-of-Life Care

(Professor and Director)
Pages 85-87 | Published online: 17 Feb 2010

Abstract

Many patients do not indicate preferences for the types of care they will receive as they approach death, but even when such preferences are explicitly expressed, the patient's wishes often are not honored. This commentary reviews two recent publications on this topic and comments on it. Honoring patient's wishes regarding symptom control, resuscitation and other aspects of their end of life care should become a priority.
