Psychiatric Illness and Fibromyalgia

Pages 41-49 | Published online: 16 Jan 2010

Abstract

A review of the literature suggests that fibromyalgia is not a psychiatric illness. A subset of patients have major depression and there is evidence that stress may play an important role in fibromyalgia. Depression may be a biologic marker for fibromyalgia in some families with a spectrum of "affective disorders."
