Abstract
A new office of Alternative Medicine within the NIH has begun its work with hearings to establish what should be included in this category. A small RFA has been offered to which 800 letters of intent have been received. Other roles might be as an information clearing house on proposed "dramatic new therapies" and as a guide to clinician investigators regarding such issues as study design and valid outcome measures.
