ABSTRACT
“Viewing the Hip,” is an overview of the use of Rap music in feature films. This essay will examine (1) A definition of Rap music (2) An overview of African-American film music (3) The emergence of Rap music on film soundtracks and (4) Rap as a film score and soundtrack. This essay reviews more than thirty-five film soundtracks from 1989 through 1995.
