ABSTRACT
Edgar Rice Burroughs, best known as the creator of Tarzan of the Apes, is one of America's most popular writers of genre fiction. Long dismissed due to the elitist attitudes of critics and librarians, Burroughs' work has gained increased recognition in recent years. The University of Louisville has established the foremost research collection of ERB material, founded upon the personal collection of its curator, George McWhorter. This article describes the collection and the activities of McWhorter on behalf of Burroughs researchers and fans.
