Polymyxin-metal complexes and their biological use

Pages 139-140 | Published online: 25 Feb 2005

Abstract

Polymyxins are cyclic peptide antibiotics isolated from Bacillus colistinus. These generally readily form salts with acids. Polymyxin A, B, C, D and E have also been isolated, but only polymyxin B and polymyxin E (colistin) are used clinically. They have bactericidal activity against Gram-negative bacteria, especially, Psudomonas.
