Abstract

Let us look at a supplement issue of Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica. I have selected Supple-mentum I of Volume XXIV from 1943. Its title and the main text were in German: ‘Untersuchungen über die Faktoren, die die Grösse des neugeborenen Kindes beeinflussen’ (1). A. Lenner (Stockholm) wanted to find out which are the factors that influence the size of the newborn child, through case materials from six different sources, some of them from Sweden (Nykop-ing and Stockholm) and some from Germany dating from the years 1928 to 1935. He correlated the size of the newborn to the duration of pregnancy at birth, to the season of the year, the mother's age and social status, parity, and to the mother's and the father's body sizes.
