The Act of Swallowing in Hypopharyngeal Diverticulum: Film Demonstration

Pages 284-285 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The film which is shown at this meeting is made with the purpose of demonstrating the technique of endoscopically performed operations for hypopharyngeal diverticula. By using the technique of X-ray-cinematography it has been possible to study the mechanism of swallowing before and after the operations. The details specially worth mentioning are the regurgitations, the entering of air together with the food the patient swallows which gives the gurgling noises and the mechanism by which the diverticulo-oesophageal wall obstructs the “mouth” of the oesophagus.
