Abstract

The lateralisation of the Weber test in a successfully fenestrated ear is discussed on the basis of an increased column difference of the two scalae.

The case of otosclerosis of the round window is analyzed from the point of view of bone conduction. The acoustic leak of the scala tympani through the apertures of the cochlear aqueduct and the vena cochlearis inferior is considered to be responsible for a bone conduction audiogram of the diagonal type before operation. After operation the bone conduction should be restored to normal. The practical results are demonstrated in such a case of a complete occlusion of the round window niche.
