Abstract

Results of a bronchial examination are reported in a series of 133 cases of fresh pulmonary tuberculosis. The combined bronchoscopy–bronchography technique was used. Active mucosal tuberculous changes were found in 7 per cent; in 5 per cent there were alterations of the bronchial lumen caused by extrabronchial glandular involvement. As compared with this incidence (12 per cent) active changes recognizable by bronchoscopy, the bronchograms showed bronchial abnormalities in 50 per cent. The effect of medication is discussed, and the importance of bronchography stressed.
