Abstract
A method is described which utilizes puretone audiometric and speech audiometric techniques for verifying monaural deafness and yielding important information about the response integrity of the subject. The method has been arbitrarily called the Lateralization Method. It represents another tool to be added to the existing tests of functional deafness; namely, PGSR audiometry, Delayed Speech Feedback, the Stenger Test, and the Lombard Test. The Lateralization Method consists of four parts, (1) the puretone shadow curve, (2) the lateralized speech reception threshold, (3) the lateralized PB score and (4) the voice quality report. The method has been in use for the past two years and has been particularly helpful in medico-legal cases of monaural deafness. A follow-up report will contain validation data.
