Discrepancy Between The Loudness Function As Measured By The Ablb And The Metz Method

Abstract

In a patient with acoustic neuroma we found a distinct and well documented discrepancy between the loudness function as measured by the ABLB test, and that measured by the Metz test. It is the first such case that has been published and with our present knowledge it is not possible to explain this finding. The inevitable conclusion is that the phenomena that determine subjective loudness sensation and the middle ear muscle reflexes are not totally identical.
