Abstract
680 ears from a total of 922 ears operated in 1964–71 were followed 9–17 years (average 12.5 years) after radical mastoidectomy with cavity obliteration. In 34 ears a postoperative cholesteatoma was found. New cholesteatomas were discovered annually during the observation period. 10 of these were considered to be residual cholesteatomas, 17 retraction pocket cholesteatomas and 7 epidermal migration cholesteatomas.
