Abstract
We have developed a simple method and a new echoscope for the detection of retained secretion in maxillary and frontal sinuses especially for the needs of offices and out-patient departments. A traditional pulse-echo instrument is supplied with a new light-emitting diode display unit in the handle of the probe instead of the oscilloscope display tube in the main electronic unit. The examination is easier and the cost-benefit ratio better than with traditional A-mode echoscopes. In the screening of secretion the level of confidence was found to be from 78 % to 89 % in three series of maxillary and frontal sinuses.
