Abstract
Alternate cross sections, 10 μm thick, from the tensor tympani muscle of the cat, were incubated for cholinesterase and myofibrillar ATPase. A total of 901 fibres, sampled from different areas in four muscles were followed throughout the whole length of the fibres. More than one motor endplate (mostly two) were found on 1.3 % of the fibres only. In some longitudinal sections cholinesterase positive dots and lines along the surface of the fibre could be demonstrated. Most probably these dots and lines represent non-junctional cholinesterase activity.
