Abstract
Activities of monoamine oxidase (MAO), dopadecarboxylase (DDC), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), non-specific cholinesterase (non spec. ChE) and cholineacetylase (ChAc) were studied in brain cell fractions separated by density gradient centrifugation (Hemminki and Holmila, 1971). Our results suggest an active role for glia in synthesis and inactivation of transmitters in the brain.
