A New Diazo Method for the Determination of Ascorbic Acid in Blood Plasma

Abstract

A new method for the determination of ascorbic acid in plasma is described. The method is based on a colour reaction not hitherto known between the zinc chloride double salt of diazotized 4-nitroaniline-2,5-dimethoxy-aniline and ascorbic acid. The study includes a comparison with the titrimetric method of Ingals and the photometric method of Schaffert & Kingsley.

The method described is easier, quicker and more reliable than the other methods studied and has an error of 1–2 per cent at normal plasma levels.
