Abstract

The relationship between reactive hyperemia and vascular volume changes in muscle has been studied. Peak volume was proportional to peak venous outflow during free flow and with variable arterial constriction. Peak venous outflow and peak volume were reached simultaneously. Time to peak venous outflow and time to peak volume was inversely related to peak venous outflow and time to peak volume was inversely related to peak venous outflow. Volume changes accompanying changes in arterial inflow for different reactive hyperemia responses were simulated with an electronic analogue. The analogue curves showed good agreement with experimental findings.
