Abstract

The properties of three gel filtration peaks of 4-methylumbelliferyl- β-galaclosidase were studied from control and gargoylism human liver. Normal human liver contains only two different 4-methylumbelliferyl- β-galactosidases, represented by peaks II and III. Both these enzymes also appear in peak I, possibly because of attachment to membranes. Only one of the two enzymes is deficient in gargoylism.
