Pages 271-276 | Received 30 Jan 1969, Accepted 19 Mar 1969, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

A follow-up investigation after 11 years was made on 75 male subjects 61–75 years of age, 30 with ST segmental changes in the exercise ECG in 1957, and 45 without such changes. The number of subjects who developed coronary heart disease (CHD) during the follow-up period was 16 in the group with ST segmental changes, and 8 in the group without ST segmental changes. The risk of developing CHD in a period of about 10 years was 3 times greater in subjects with initial exercise ST segmental changes as compared with those without such changes (P < 0.01).
