Abstract
A routine method for atomic absorption analysis of lead in blood is described, which does not involve solvent extraction of the metal. Proteins are precipitated by trichloroacetic acid in the presence of perchloric acid, the sample centrifuged and the supernatant liquid analysed directly. The results obtained are in good agreement with those obtained either on completely ashed blood or on ammonium pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate extracted blood. The speed of analysis is much greater than for the extraction method, and the sensitivity sufficient even for normal blood lead levels.
