Metabolism of Bence Jones Proteins in Non-Myeloma Patients with Normal Renal Function

Pages 281-289 | Received 18 Sep 1969, Accepted 17 Mar 1970, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Parameters of 33 turnover studies of Bence Jones proteins in subjects with normal renal function were correlated with immunological type and size of the proteins. The fractional disappearance rates (5–45 per cent per hour) yielded a bimodal distribution. Some Bence Jones protein monomers were catabolized faster than the corresponding dimers. Some seemed to be cata bolized at individually reproducible rates in different recipients. Elimination due to proteinuria was of minor importance.
