Abstract
The platelets of three sisters with plasma lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) deficiency have been studied. Decreased whole blood platelet adhesiveness with a normal bleeding time was found in two patients. Total lipid phosphorus and cholesterol and the individual phospholipids in the platelets were normal. Increased percentage of linoleic acid was found in phosphatidyl choline in two of the sisters, whereas the fatty acid pattern of the other platelet phospholipids was normal. Marked differences exist between changes in platelet and red cell lipids in patients with LCAT deficiency.
