How Apparently Identical Antisera Can Give Apparently Different Results

Pages 67-70 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Specific antisera raised in a given species and reacting with the same protein may differ from animal to animal and yield contradictory information when used in immunochemical methods for analysis of proteins. This is exemplified by some experiments with two rabbit anti-human prothrombins. Such differences seem to occur often in association with antigenic differences due to hereditary polymorphism of the proteins used for immunisation or to dena-turation by the purifaction procedures.
