Acute Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis without Proteinuria: Case Report

Pages 90-93 | Received 26 May 1972, Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

A case of acute poststreptococcal glomerulo-nephritis without proteinuria is reported. Mild proteinuria at a borderline level of 300 mg/24 hours was demonstrated on two days only. The course was characterized by initial transitory anuria-oliguria and severe renal insufficiency. From a review of the literature it is concluded that acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis without typical urinary findings does not differ bacterio-logically, serologically, histologically or clinically from typical acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis with proteinuria, erythrocyturia or cylindriuria. The cause of the absent proteinuria is discussed, but remains unknown.
