Diabetes and Renal Transplantation: A Hypothesis

Pages 50-53 | Accepted 07 Dec 1972, Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

In 4 diabetics who underwent renal transplantation, the transplant showed a remarkably good function during the months following operation, with no episodes of rejection. As such a course is unusual following a cadaveric transplantation, the hypothesis is presented that the cause of the good renal function and the “missing” rejections is to be found in the antidiabetic treatment with insulin.
