The Metabolism of Crotyl Phosphate, Crotyl Alcohol and Crotonaldehyde

Abstract

1. Rats dosed with crotyl phosphate, crotyl alcohol or crotonaldehyde excrete 3-hydroxy-1-methylpropylmercapturic acid, and occasionally smaller quantities of 2-carboxy-1-methylethylmercapturic acid.

2. Evidence is presented that these metabolites are formed from the ester and alcohol only after these compounds have been converted to crotonaldehyde.

3. The synthesis of barium crotyl phosphate, S-(3-hydroxy-1-methylpropyl)-L-cysteine, S-(3-hydroxy-1-methylpropyl)-glutathione and of the dicyclohexyl-ammonium salts of 3-hydroxy-1-methylpropyl-, 2-carboxy-1-methylethyl-, 2-ethoxycarbonyl-1-methylethyl- and crotyl-mercapturic acid is described.
