Toxicity of n-hexane and 2,5-hexanediol to the haemopoietic system: a preliminary report

Abstract

The effect of n-hexane and its metabolite, 2,5-hexanediol, on the haemopoietic system has been investigated in the rat.

2. ⁵⁹Fe uptake was decreased in the bone marrow of n-hexane-treated animals.

3. Spleen and bone marrow were the target sites for the metabolite 2,5-hexanediol, whereas n-hexane as such does not affect these organs.
