Gynaecological short communication: A study of long term use of polyvinyl chloride ring pessaries without frequent change

Pages 64-65 | Published online: 02 Jul 2009

Summary

In a prospective study of 312 polyvinyl chloride pessaries to support genital prolapse over a period of 18 months, without removing the pessaries for inspection either of the pessary or of the vaginal tissue, only four needed temporary removal for superficial tissue damage or infection. There was no significant difference from a similar number where the pessaries were removed for inspection and replaced by a new one.
