Theoretical Basis for the Practice of Community Mental Health Nursing

Abstract

An examination of some issues and factors related to constructing a paradigm for community health nursing is presented. Historical influences and ideologies are identified and related to community health nursing practice. Conceptual approaches to defining “community” are discussed. The relationship between the definitions of community and community assessment are identified. Definitions of mental health and their relationship to care are presented. Preventive intervention and community assessment approaches are discussed and applied to community mental health nursing.
