Abstract

Abstract. A case of posterior ischaemic optic neuropathy is reported due to ipsilateral internal carotid artery occlusion. Posterior ischaemic optic neuropathy may be distinguished from the more common anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy by the absence of optic disc oedema, after rigorous exclusion of an inflammatory, compressive or toxic cause. The possible mechanism is discussed.
