In the monumental Bibliothéque Nationale de France (François Mitterrand site), on the southern bank of the Seine in Paris, I found -browsing through the open bookshelves - the classic work of lgnaz Semmelweis (1818-1865): Die Aetiologie, der Begriff, und die Prophylaxis des Kindbettfiebers (1861), in a modern English translation: The Etiology, Concept, and Prophylaxis of Childbed Fever.
