Fungus infection of the orbit

Abstract

The authors present seven cases of orbital phycomycosis, three of which were due to contamination of the air-conditioning systems of the Hematology Unit, two were due to contaminated tape used to fix the nasogastric tube to the skin and the other two were sporadic infections without demonstrable evidence of nosocomial contamination. Four of the patients survived. The authors discuss the conditions in which orbital surgical treatment is necessary.
